Incense & Incense Burners
Fragrant incense celebrates our marvelous sense of smell. In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, such incense, or “sang”, is burned daily as a sacred offering ritual to clear away negative influences, purify our own state of being, and welcome auspiciousness into our surroundings. The aroma of burning incense, composed of powdered juniper, tree bark, and medicinal and herbal resins, inspires us to regard each day as sacred, and another stepping-stone along our path to enlightenment.

Rope incense sticks are a traditional form of incense, mostly prepared by Newari women for centuries. They are hand rolled made by tightly powdered incense around a thin lokta paper, resulting in a long twisted rope-like shape. When lit, they emit a fragrant smoke that is believed to purify the air and promote relaxation.
